Actitivities we make in our bilingual math classes IES Maestro Francisco Fatou, Ubrique, Cádiz. Last year, we only teached in ESO 2nd Course, but this year we have a big challenge: from ESO 1st to ESO 3rd. Come and know our work!

Sieve of Erathostenes (ESO 1st Course)
Pedro García Gil, a very interesting bilingual maths teacher suggested me this activity, I changed only a little bit. It is a worksheet to work in pairs.
Powers and roots (ESO 1st Course)
I haven't find many resources I thought interesting about powers and roots. And I finally had a problem when I tried to use them in class, because the computers need some plugins that are not easy to set up in the Guadalinex Laptops.
Anyway, here are the activities I would like have used about powers and roots:

Making experiments with probability (ESO 3rd Course)
After the unit about statistics, we were working with probability. I found a really interesting activity in order to understand the law of large numbers. It consist on making experiments with one die and two dice. Here you have the links:
The students worked in pairs, they were writing the result of their experiments and finally they gave their work to the teacher. It was funny and very learning too!

Singing the properties of addition in ESO 1st
This year we have a language assistant who can sing really well... She found this page and suggested me to use it in class. It was a success! I hope you will also enjoy it.
Making a survey using statistics in ESO 3rd
This year, we started the curriculum in ESO 3rd Course with the unit about Statistics. We have prepared a work in groups, where the students should make a survey using statistics. They should make the table, graphs and calculate the different statistical parameters.
Here you have the file with the directions to make the work.
Later, we will upload some examples of the work made by the students.

Introducing Algebra in ESO 2nd Course
This year, we have started our ESO 2nd Course with Algebra. In the begging of this unit, we have introduced them some vocabulary, so we are going to suggest them an activity in order to reforce them the knowledge of some basic algebraic expressions.
These are the Educaplay activities we have prepared:

Starting out in ESO 1st
Our first bilingual activities with ESO first course are going to be some funny games in order to encourage them to study a bilingual subject, that can be not only a difficult task, but also an interesting activity.
First of all, with the help of our language assistant, Becky O'Neill, we are going to emulate the world famous quiz "Who wants to be a millionaire?" with a mathematical version: Who wants to be a mathionaire?.
Later we can test the calculations abilities of our students with another game: Speed Math.

A quiz to review percentages
All our students know what a percentage is, and how to calculate percentage of a quantity. So, all we want to get is to review some concepts, and methods of calculation. And, if it is possible, to make it enjoying.
So, finally we organized a quiz between two teams. They can get some points, and they can also lose them if they are wrong in any answer. Here you have the presentation we used. It was really funny, and we use two or more sessions to finish the quiz!

Ratio and proportion
In order to work the contents about ratios, and direct or inverse proportions, we download and adapt the following presentation and try to explain the students directly in English:

Gymkhana in Benamahoma
We are five teachers in our bilingual group: one of Natural Sciences, another one for Arts and Crafts, the language assistant, the bilingual coordinator (she is an English Teacher), and I, as a maths teacher. A social sciences teacher is supposed to be with us, but finally, we still don't have any.
However, last year, when we were preparing some materials and activities for this course, we used to work in the integrated curriculum, chosing one unit of social sciences and trying to prepare activities in our subjects related with that social sciences unit.
For the first term in ESO 2nd Course, we prepare an excursion to Benamahoma, related with the unit about Arabic Age in Spain. We prepare a Gymkhana in Benamahoma with several quizes related with maths, natural sciences or Arts and Crafts, and, later, we walked the path from Benamahoma to El Bosque along the river, searching some species between such biodiversity.
Here are some of the files related with this activity.
Here you can read a blog post about this day in the language assistant blog.
